All elementary students are weighed and measured annually during the first few weeks of school in gym class. These measurements can easily be used in conjunction with the Center For Disease Control (CDC) guidelines to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI can be used as a guideline to predict risk for future health problems that can be further evaluated by your physician.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has recommended that all children have their BMI monitored periodically. Each school nurse has been asked to report their findings to those parents who have children in grades 1, 4, 7and 9. This mailing takes place in February and any further concern can be directed to our nursing director, Mrs. Pat Small at 781-344-4000, ext. 258.
