The West Elementary School has 108 students enrolled in the ELL program. Some of the countries that students are from are Brazil, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Russia, Pakistan, India, China, Philippines and Guatemala.
ELL students are represented in all grades (Kindergarten through fifth).
The West Elementary School has four ELL specialists that work with ELL students in small groups as well as in the general education classroom.
Depending on students' proficiency levels, ELL instruction blocks are 42 minutes per meeting and meet from 5 to 10 times per week. For example, non-English speakers may recieve ELL instruction two times per day, five times per week.
ELL specialists and the general education teachers work cooperatively in developing lessons with accessable content for ELL students.
